Naming Runs

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Ventity keeps all runs from the current session in memory. Each run is given a session name to distinguish it from other runs in charts, tables and other output. The session name is determined as follows:

The first is in the run control dialog, in the Name column. This name is regarded as the "suffix" name, in a case where a name is present in both run naming dialog boxes.

For the second, locate the green arrow in the toolbar. Next to it is an open space where you can enter a run name. This name is regarded as the "prefix" name, in a case where a name is present in both run naming dialog boxes.

You can use either to provide the run name. If you use both, the run name will use both parts, with the title bar value first and the run control value second. If you use neither (leaving both blank), Ventity will simply name the runs sequentially (Run 1, Run 2, ... ).

1. If you write a name into the name field (the box next to the green arrowrun) before running the simulation, the results will use that name.

2. If a run by that name already exists in the session, and the "overwrite" box is checked, the new run will replace the previous run of the same name. If the overwrite box is not checked, the run will be given a modified name by appending a numeral. For example, if "current" is in the name field and there is already a run with session name "current", the next runs will be called "current 1, current 2..."

3. If both name fields are blank, the runs will simply default to the name "Run" then following the numbering system, e.g.: "Run 1, Run 2, Run 3..."

When you close Ventity, runs are removed from memory. To examine them in a future session without re-running them, you must save them to disk before closing Ventity and then re-load them in a future session. See Manage Multiple Runs for more information.
